Join us in our mission to prepare the next generation of sustainability changemakers.

Marking our 10th year of educating for sustainability, we look to our families and friends to propel us into the next decade of growth. Your support makes it possible for us to deepen our sustainability model and ensure students, families, alumni – now many thousands strong – have access to resources and meaningful experiences that empower them to lead change

Thank you to our families, grandparents, or friends of BUGS whose support helps make our school a very special place where our children (and planet) can thrive.

BUGS IMPACT!

  • Design of a rigorous and innovative interdisciplinary sustainability curriculum grounded in a whole child approach that prepares students to succeed in high school and become doers, designers, and sustainability change makers.
  • Contributes to a stronger and healthier community through youth action projects from renovating community parks, analyzing air quality, researching the impact of climate change, caring for street trees, and advocating for food equity and social justice. Our partners in sustainability learning include Mixteca, Prospect Park, Billion Oyster Project, Gowanus Canal Conservancy, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Green-Wood, and many others.
  • Provides a model for active hands-on learning that leverages outdoor "living classrooms" including 3 BUGS gardens, onsite hydroponics growing systems, and Field Studies sustainability projects across NYC.
  • Fosters understanding of best practices in educator training with ongoing professional development focused on our co-teaching model and building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

"BUGS represents the best ideals of education in NYC, including equal access and opportunities for children of all abilities and backgrounds, a commitment to inclusion, a strong sense of mission, and high academic standards and expectations throughout its classes." --BUGS Parent
