This Giving Season Power Our Future.
Help us grow our model and the sustainability leaders of tomorrow by making a gift today!
Now more than ever, BUGS is committed to reimagining an approach to middle school education that inspires curiosity and new ways of creating a just and sustainable world. Visit our high energy classrooms or see us on Field Studies analyzing water systems in Prospect Park, studying climate resilient systems at the Brooklyn Army Terminal or food systems in our outdoor classrooms, and you will be inspired by the passion our students and teaching team bring to hands-on, real world problem solving. This learning is crucial and so is your support.
Our generous board has challenged us to raise $10,000 by the end of Giving Tuesday on December 3 with the promise of a $10,000 match.
WE CAN DO IT WITH YOUR HELP!
Thank you to our families, grandparents, and friends of BUGS whose support helps make our school a very special place where our children (and planet) can thrive.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION OF ANY AMOUNT SUPPORTS BUGS TO:
- Provide an innovative and rigorous interdisciplinary sustainability curriculum grounded in a whole child approach that prepares students to succeed in high school. Our approach is having a big impact! BUGS far surpassed our District, City, and NY State on 2023-24 State Test Scores!
- Build a stronger and healthier community through community action projects such as renovating community parks, analyzing air quality, researching the impact of climate change, caring for street trees, and advocating for food equity and social justice. Our partners in educating for sustainability include Mixteca, Prospect Park, Billion Oyster Project, Gowanus Canal Conservancy, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Green-Wood, and many others.
- Offer a model for active hands-on learning that leverages outdoor "living classrooms" including 3 BUGS gardens, onsite hydroponics growing systems, and Field Studies sustainability projects across NYC.
- Foster understanding of best practices in educator training with ongoing professional development focused on our co-teaching model and building a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
"BUGS represents the best ideals of education in NYC, including equal access and opportunities for children of all abilities and backgrounds, a commitment to inclusion, a strong sense of mission, and high academic standards and expectations throughout its classes." – BUGS Parent
