Together, we can grow the students who will change the world!

During this giving season, we turn to our friends and families to show their support for BUGS! Our small but mighty middle school and our innovative approach to Educating for Sustainability provides hope and inspiration amidst the urgent challenges to our community and environment.

But we need you. Your support fuels our model and ensures our students have powerful opportunities to grow, explore, and think critically and compassionately about how to solve issues affecting their lives and future. From exploring climate resilient urban designs, to analyzing water quality in Prospect Park, to surveying community members about their access to fresh and affordable produce, our students are challenged to apply their knowledge, skills, and creativity to designing action-based solutions. This learning is crucial and so is your support.

If we raise $10,000 by the end of Giving Tuesday (December 2),
our generous board has offered to unlock a
$10,000 match.

WE CAN DO IT WITH YOUR HELP!

Thank you to our families, grandparents, and friends of BUGS whose support helps make our school a very special place where our children (and planet) can thrive.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION OF ANY AMOUNT SUPPORTS BUGS TO:

  • Provide a tuition-free innovative and rigorous interdisciplinary sustainability curriculum to students from across Brooklyn grounded in a whole child approach that prepares students to succeed in high school. Our approach is having a big impact! BUGS far surpassed our District, City, and NY State on 2024-25 State Test Scores.

  • Foster understanding of best practices in educating for sustainability with ongoing professional development focused on how we create classrooms where ideas grow and innovation happens.

  • Nurture big thinkers who graduate from BUGS inspired to pursue studies in environmental science, careers in urban design, climate resiliency, and clean energy, or to become artists, writers, and journalists advocating for social justice.

It was my time in the BUGS garden that helped to spark my love for research. Now when I consider the role I want to play as a researcher and climate activist, I think back to the garden. I imagine myself pushing the next wave of research by studying the cellular proximity that will allow solar panels to garner energy from the sun and be optimally efficient. When I dream about my future, I think about supporting a world that is free from fossil fuels; one renewable method at a time. This dream would have never been possible without learning about sustainability at BUGS.” — Victoria Przydanek, University of Pennsylvania
